Djibouti In-Depth Tour: Highlight & Whale Sharks (23 -27 November)

Experience the best of Djibouti on this 5 days / 4 nights adventure combining marine life, tropical islands and stunning coastal scenery. From Djibouti City, travel across the Gulf of Tadjourah for an unforgettable day at sea.

Between November and January, enjoy the rare opportunity to do Whale Shark Tour near Ras Korali. Outside whale shark season, explore the beautiful Islands of Maskali and Moucha, known for their white sandy beaches, coral reefs and crystal-clear waters filled with colorful marine life.

This tour offers the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation and unforgettable experiences in one of Africa’s most unique destinations.


Djibouti City, Lake Abbé, Lake Assal, Tadjourah & Sable Blancs

Pick up and transfer to your Hotel. Depending on your arrival time you will explore the capital Djibouti City.

Start your day exploring Djibouti City, the country’s capital. Walk through the European Quarter with its old buildings from the French colonial times, then visit the African Quarter, full of life, markets, and local culture.

See the Hamoudi Mosque, one of the oldest in the city, and stop by the People’s Palace, an important national monument. Later, walk through the main market, where you’ll find colorful stalls and local goods. End the day with a stroll along the coast and enjoy views of the Gulf of Tadjoura.

In the morning we’ll drive to Lake Abbé. The drive passes The Grand Bara and Petit Barra deserts. In Dikhil there will be a stop for lunch before arriving at Lake Abbe. You will have an overnight stay at the Touristic Camp to see the amazing scenery during sunset. The Touristic Camp is a settlement of traditional Afar huts which are very basic.

For more comfort you can choose to stay at Neem Farm which is located 40 km further. At this farm you can also enjoy a buggy drive through the desert to Lake Abbe.

There will be an early wake up to see the sunrise. Lake Abbé has a beautiful scenery full of chimneys. During a walking tour to the Lake you might also see nomadic people, Birds, Flamingos and Hot Springs. The geology of this area is very interesting. We drive to Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa. On our way we also visit the Panoramic views of Canyon Adaleh and Goubet.

In Lake Assal the big salt field makes you feel like walking in nowhere land. The water has bright colors that change from time to time because of the sun reflection. The trip continues to Tadjourah for an overnight stay.

The oldest town in Djibouti is known for its whitewashed buildings. After exploring Tadjourah we head to Plage de Sables Blancs. Here you can refresh while enjoying beautiful white sand beaches and drinks. We drive back to Djibouti City where the tour ends.

Djibouti City – Whale Shark Tour – Djibouti City:
Departure is from the Fishing Point in Djibouti. From here, we head to Ras Korali, one of the best areas for Whale Shark sightings. Once we reach the spot, you’ll have 45–60 minutes to swim or snorkel alongside the whale sharks. Enjoy lunch on the boat, along with access to snorkel or diving equipment. After a full day at sea, we return to Djibouti City’s Fishing Point (BL). (Note: available from November to January)

Djibouti City – Maskali & Moucha Island Tour – Djibouti City:
Departure is from the Fishing Point in Djibouti. From here, we board a boat and head out across the Gulf of Tadjourah. The scenic ride to Maskali Island takes around 30–45 minutes, offering panoramic views of the coastline and open ocean. Upon arrival at Maskali Island, our team will set you up with snorkeling gear so you can explore the vibrant coral gardens and encounter a variety of colorful fish species such as parrotfish, surgeonfish and angelfish. With luck, you might even spot sea turtles or other fascinating marine creatures beneath the surface. Continue by boat to Moucha Island, a small coral island famed for its white sandy beaches and protected mangrove forests. Relax on the each, take a refreshing swim in the warm Indian Ocean or explore the mangrove ecosystem which supports diverse marine life. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach. You may choose to swim longer, sunbathe, or simply take in the scenic surroundings before boarding the boat back to Djibouti City. Return to the harbor in the late afternoon
